THE HUNTER, END OF A LONG DAY

16"x20"

Principal photography took place in the Chicago slums. McQueen was profoundly affected by the poverty around him, and quietly set about putting his money to good use in the area. It was on the set that the symptoms of his final illness became evident.

'PEPSI VERDURAS', MEXICO

16"x20"

Marrying in January 1980, the McQueens set off on honeymoon to Mexico. In a small village, Barbara captured a haunting moment. "Whenever I look at this picture, I wonder what Steve was thinking about as he watched her playing without a care in the world".

IN THE BACKYARD, SANTA PAULA

16"x20"

Surrounded by homely paraphernalia, having coffee, reading the paper and enjoying an open fire in a lit smudge pot. This is one of the last shots Barbara took of Steve before he became seriously ill in the spring of 1980.
